Telluride has the bustling energy of any city neighborhood padded by the security of a small town, and main street is its epicenter. Impromptu things are common: spontaneous business meetings over coffee; a couple of guys with a couple of guitars; teenagers who uncontrollably clump on the sidewalk benches. On main street, you might pass a movie star or a local, either or both with a pair of skis perched over a shoulder. There are gaggles of long haired girls walking home from school and moms who can handle the reins of a dog leash and baby jogger simultaneously. Bankers and executive directors wear sunglasses and ride their bikes. The only people in suits are lawyers exiting the courthouse. Politics are local, degrees of separation end at about one, and updates on holidays and families are traded at the bank or the market.

At only just about a mile square, you can grab your morning coffee and a paper within an easy walk from any place in Telluride. It's also a short walk from anywhere to the gondola, the high-rise people mover that connects two towns (Mountain Village and Telluride), separated from view as one community.
